Directions for Rug Assemblers

Thank you for your interest in being one of our rug assemblers!

Most of our assemblers will have braiding skills.  Each of the hooked, punched, and braided rounds will be assembled with braided and/or hooked inserts between the circles.  Most will find it useful to put a butted row of braid around the 9″ circles to incorporate them into rugs.

We will do our best to recruit assistants for making triangular braided and hooked inserts.  The hooked inserts will probably require you to trace the  between-rounds shapes onto foundation fabric for hooking/punching.  Directions for making braided and hooked triangle inserts will be forthcoming on this site.

To sign up for rug assembling, please contact Christine Manges (thebraidingpost1@gmail.com) or Kris McDermet (kmcdermet1@gmail.com).  We will find out from you what design you’re interested in, whether you would like hooked or punched rounds or braided ones, and how many are needed for your design.

Rounds MUST be sent to you by July 15, 2020.  That will give you a little more than 6 weeks to assemble the rounds into a beautiful rug.  You will need to stitch a label (created by a volunteer label-maker) onto the back of the rug, then take a photo of the completed rug and record its measurements.  Send the digital photo to each of the round-makers featured in the rug so that they can help advertise the raffle, which will be Sept 4, 2020, on National Food Bank Day.

Here are some sample designs for assembling rounds… but feel free to come up with your own designs!Screen Shot 2020-05-01 at 2.52.10 PM
