We are pleased to announce that the Speaker for the 2019 VF Spring Braid in is Susan Feller.
Susan Feller is a Girl Scout, History and Art major in college, and she was raised in rural New Jersey. She and her partner have settled into life in the mountains of West Virginia after running a picture framing gallery for twenty years. With that background: traditions, craft, nature and environment are the elements that you will see repeated in her fiber art. Because of her father’s PA German heritage, fraktur motifs have inspired dozens of rug hooking patterns in the Ruckman Mill Farm line. Since selling this business to Green Mountain Hooked Rugs, Feller has concentrated her studio time on depicting natural surroundings and by advocating for the arts economy in West Virginia.
Susan Feller’s talk will address how to be inspired when one project is done and your hands want to start working again, encouraging documenting your process showing the tools, materials and design steps in photos on social media and especially in journals for future researchers, and experimenting with different techniques perhaps just to help you look at braiding anew.
